This year, we celebrate an incredible milestone: 20 years of Anne Mulaire.
What started as a small booth at the Fringe Festival has grown into a brand that stands for sustainable fashion, cultural heritage, and a deep connection to the community. Our journey has been filled with creativity, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to our Métis roots.
From Humble Beginnings to a Movement
When I first set up shop at the Fringe Festival two decades ago, I had no grand plan—just a love for design and a desire to create. I remember standing behind that tiny booth, surrounded by handmade samples, with nothing but hope and a little bit of nervous energy. Little did I know, this was the start of something much bigger.
A Brand Built on Heritage
At the heart of Anne Mulaire is a deep respect for my Métis heritage. Each collection is a blend of contemporary style and traditional inspiration, weaving together the stories of our ancestors with the modern-day values of sustainability and craftsmanship. Whether it’s a hand-painted birch design or a signature floral motif, every piece carries a story.
20 Years of Growth and Innovation
Over the years, our brand has evolved, but our mission remains the same: to create timeless, ethical fashion that feels as good as it looks. We've launched innovative programs like our Repair and Refresh initiative, partnered with incredible artisans, and remained dedicated to circular fashion and eco-conscious practices.
Our commitment to innovative energy-efficient practices has led to a 30% reduction in the company’s carbon footprint. This includes using renewable energy sources in company facilities and optimizing logistics to minimize transportation emissions. The company’s on-demand production model cut textile waste by 15,000 pounds and reduced carbon emissions to the equivalent of 143,221 kilometers of driving.
In 2024, our brand received the Sustainable Business Award from the Red River Métis Excellence Awards. The fashion line was also nominated for the 2024 Sustainability Award by the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards and was a Clean50 winner in 2025.
We are proud to be the first Indigenous-Owned Apparel Manufacturer in Canada to be recognized with B Corp certification. Businesses that are a part of the Canadian B Corp Directory share common values and operate with integrity, transparency, and compassion towards workers, the community, and the environment.
